Great looking shoes. Had a side strap tear and break after about a dozen wearings. Rest of the shoe looks brand new. Zappos replaced, of course.

I love Keens and everything about this shoe except this shoe laces. Ours broke in week 2, which happens with every pair we ever buy from Keen with this type of “easy” adjust shoe lace. I would give it a 5 if they didn’t break.

Another reviewer commented on the failure of the easy-lace design and I agree. I’ve been buying Keens for my 8 year old son for several years. They are durable and comfortable, but the bungie lacing system is always the first to fail, and once it does, there’s no good permanent way to repair it.
I liked these shoes in particular because the all black ones are dress-code friendly but are durable and sporty enough to withstand PE and recess activities. The one design flaw is they have a thin ribbon that is threaded around the ankle opening, and loops back on itself at either end of the top of the tongue. The bungie threads through this loop before feeding into the plastic clip tensioner. This ribbon is much weaker than the bungie cord and it will eventually wear out and snap. Fortunately, my son’s didn’t fail until after about five months, which is better than two weeks, but otherwise there is a whole lot of life left in this shoe. Anyways, once that ribbon snaps, you’re on your own to find another way to keep enough tension in the laces to hold the shoe on. Good luck with that.
Overall, a great shoe, and I love Keens in general. Just hope you get enough use out of them before the lacing system fails. Rated this 4 stars on the review page despite that it’s showing 5.

Got these for my 7-year old. I looked at various shoes, trying to go with minimum support, nice wide toe box for healthier, and most-like-barefoot shoe I could find. These were recommended, and they’ve turned out great. They’re comfortable, and flexible, and easy to put on and off because of the no-tie shoe laces. Also really cute two-toned design (we got the blue-green color). Bonus: when one of the plastic pieces broke on the no-tie laces, I called Keen customer service, and they sent a replacement part no charge. Yay for that! Other than the broken piece, the shoes have held up quite well.

My twelve year old loves these. He takes a five in big kids, and that’s what we got. These run true to size, but my son’s foot tends toward wide a little bit, and these fit him perfectly. They look very nice on, and he loved the blue/green combo. He said they were really comfortable. We always buy him keens because he’s so hard on his shoes and they wear really well.

These shoes are a bit stiff right out of the box and not easy to slip on. My son said that they rubbed on his ankles, so we are returning them.

My 11-year-old son has extra wide feet. They joke on the swim team that he doesn’t need flippers because that’s how wide his feet are!
He’s been wearing Keen’s since he was 6 or 7 because of the width. We recently bought a new style of Keen’s (either Zappos doesn’t carry the ones he had for years, or Keen stopped making them) and the new style was too narrow. This style (Chandler) fit like the old style and was wide enough. Make sure you look at the shoe in the pictures from the top angle looking down so you can see, because it seems not all Keens are extra wide.

These shoes were primarily purchased for family hiking trips. They eventually turned into an everyday school shoe. My son likes the style and never has complaints about the fit. With all that that an eight-year old boy can do to a shoe, these show little signs of wear and tear. Keens are always a good investment. I will likely buy the same style when he moves up a size.

Fit well. Pretty much indestructible. My son drags his toe when stopping his scooter. These held up. In fact just orders another pair Monday because he grew out of them.

My son loves them! My son is autistic and is very picky about shoes. He has a hard time tying them and drags his toes (looking for input) so getting shoes that work and last is really a challenge! But Keens Rock! They last at least 6 months even longer sometimes and he doesn’t complain about them! We just transitioned from the Velcro to the slip on ones without an issue (and that is HUGE) for us! I highly recommend them for boys who are rough one shoes and want comfort and a well made brand!

Great shoes! Son loves them.

I was surprised and shocked when my son told me that his feet hurt 2 steps out the door. It was in multiple places in the collar of the shoe. I thought there were wood chip splinters in his shoe. But there were hard pieces of fiber that needed to be cut out.

Lasted less than 5 days of wearing and we paid $60.

These shoes are expensive for a child and the laces with the plastic draw string broken after a few weeks of wear and tear. Regular laces would have been better. You would think Keen would have sturdier plastic tie pieces for their shoes!

Great Keen shoes. My son is now ready for hiking season.
Eva –
Amazing, true to size ( I bought a size up to last longer). My boys doesn’t want to take them off. They said very comfortable.

Love the rubber toe. Made well.

My 11 year old son really likes these shoes. He says they are really good for climbing trees and rocks because the toe of the shoe is rubber. The shoes are holding up quite nicely considering how hard he is on his shoes.

Last spring I purchased the same shoe in size 3 (it was a half size big). I just got them again in a size 4. They are great to wear when hiking and at rocky beaches. I rinsed out shoes full of rocks and sand in the morning and left them on my steps on a breezy, partly cloudy day, they were completely dry in the afternoon.

Great shoe that is easy for my 5 & 7 year olds to put on. I like the bungee laces and the kids say they are very comfortable. Keen is definitely our go to brand for my boys as they hold up to all the hikes and outdoor activities.

My 9 year old son loved these. He used them straight out of the box for 3 days of hiking. They were lightweight, dried quickly and had great traction on sandy and wet rocks and paths.

We’ve bought tons of Keen and have been very happy with them, but this style is a fail. The insole slides and bunches at the front of the shoe. I was constantly having to unwrinkle them and carefully put my son’s feet back in without making them slide back down. But that didn’t last long because the straps on the side broke and they became unusable after just a week. My wife sewed it back but the other side snapped the next day. They look great, but this style is poorly made. We’ll stick with the the Newports.

Our son loves these- with or without socks, in water or hiking all day in the mountains. nice support for kids.

Very comfortable. I liked the wide-toe box. Having elastic instead of laces makes the shoes so easy to put on. I also appreciated the more solid toe especially when hiking around rocks and roots.

My son is hard on shoes, which is why I buy Keens to begin with. These lasted only two months before the material on the instep was worn out. Love Keen toe box though.
